DIN-Rail vs Chassis-Mount: How Should You Mount Your Power Supply?

31-05-2026
A DIN-rail mounted power supply

Two supplies can have identical electrical specs and still be the wrong choice — because of how they mount. The two common formats are DIN-rail and chassis-mount, and picking the right one saves time on the bench and grief in the field.

DIN-rail

The supply clips onto a standard 35 mm rail in a control cabinet. Fast to fit, easy to swap, and it sits tidily alongside breakers, relays and PLCs. It is the natural choice for industrial control panels and anywhere a fitter needs to add or replace a unit quickly without tools.

Chassis / panel-mount

The supply bolts directly to a plate or enclosure wall via its own mounting holes or flanges. It is compact, low-cost and rugged, and it makes the most of the space inside a custom box — the right call for OEM builds where the supply is fitted once and forgotten.

Quick rule of thumb

Building a control panel, or expect to service it in the field? DIN-rail. Designing your own enclosure for volume, and want the lowest cost in the smallest space? Chassis-mount. Many of our families come in both, so you can keep the same electrical part and just change how it fixes.

Browse the AC/DC range or tell us your panel and we will point you to the right format.
